Set department based upon specific web page
I'd like the ability to have a widget that will automatically select the department based upon the webpage the visitor is on. For example, if they are on the web page for Dept A, the widget will automatically associate chats and offline messages with Dept A. And if the buyer is on the page for Dept B, then the same thing would happen for Dept B.
This would alleviate the problem of users choosing the wrong department, or not know what department they should contact.

Thank you for the idea.
You can achieve the same effect by using a different widget for different websites. Departments should serve as different contact points for users, depending on their necessity.
We cannot select the department automatically as we cannot predict what will the users question be.

It would be great to combine this request with the ability to assign an agent to a specific department.

I think the perception of the idea here is wrong from tawk. A developer can use javascript to auto choose a department so that site visitor doesn't have to do it. Also, here the question is not about different websites, of course it makes sense to have different widget for different websites, but here it's about different pages of same website. I also agree, twak should have feature of pushing department via Javascript API as mentioned by David and also add an attribute in widget so that it can be auto selected at the page level too.

Absolutely. I've just chatted with a tawk.to rep and they agreed this should be implemented. Department should be selected with no user interaction. This could be done via the Javascript API.
