go conform with European privacy and data protection regulations
Sadly, the use of tawk.to within the the EU is not really legal, due to privacy and data protection concerns.
Lawyers and business advocates are telling us, we should stop using tawk - if we come across the wrong customer we could end up in legal trouble.
Fix this plz!

Hi!
tawk.to‘s Terms of Service, Data Processing Addendum and Privacy Policy can be found online at:

Still nothing new on their support channel, they were unable to advise on anything other than brush it off with what has already been previously stated regarding covered by Google etc. I'm guessing if they had plans (or even cared) we would know by now and web developers need to know about this in advance because it involves pulling their code from loads of websites and sourcing/setting up new providers. The impression I get is that they are milking it until the final death of Tawk.to. Shame, was good service, they just overlooked one of the biggest internet shakeups in history and it will cost them more than the implication of a fix. I bet they take the easy way out and suggest we implement a script blocker built into the consent actions. #WayToGo #HighAndDry

IP Anonymization is a absolute requirement in order to comply with GDPR.

So today I also asked tawk.to via chat and they told me the follwing information, quote:
"The datastore is stored in the US, but we have a contract with google as provider to comply with GDPR https://www.google.com/cloud/security/gdpr/
We are hosted at Google, and have a globally distributed CDN, so the system is very stable and secure. so the closest CDN will store your data in your part of the world"Can anyone from tawk.to confirm this again? Also, what will happen regarding the IP Anonymization? It is absolutely not legal in Germany, so please provide additional options here as well...

Just asked Tawk.to on the chat, but they couldn't give additional updates on the matter. Although I think they will have a solution in place before the deadline (as they mentioned above), I suggest you consider alternatives to tawk.to if they do not manage to give an update soon.

Could someone from Tawk.to confirm when their platform will become GDPR compliant? This is a big concern of ours right now being an IT reseller in the UK.
Many thanks,

can you please explain what the issue is?

Which deadline? We need to anonymise IPs otherwise we can't use your service in Europe.

This is very important to us as well. Starting 25th of May 2018 nobody within the European Union can use tawk.to anymore. And especially in Germany it is not justifiable with current and future law.
- Anonymization of IP // a must-have in Germany right now // see how Google Analytics is handling it (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052?hl=en)
- Contract for data processing nessesary // you process data of our clients! // see Google Analytics (https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/de.pdf)
and much more...

Please make it as easy as possible for your EU-customers to go through all necessary steps, so that even companys and smal website owners who are not perfectly trained in this (or don't have a DPO) can manage to make their tawk.to install legal.
I would love to use tawk.to on my plattforms in 2018. Please give me the chance.
